Model Bridge Building and Testing
Those who enroll will design, build, and test bridge trusses. We will use an Excel model to compute loads on the various components of the truss, which is expected to inform the building process. The model bridges will be 13-16 inches long, and they will be tested under simulated loads of up to 800 lbs. This program is expected to prepare students for real world design in static models, and will also prepare them for a high school and middle school TSA competition “structural engineering and design”, which asks students to design the best bridge.
Time Duration: 15 hours total (3 hours a day)

Instructor: Jakob Bjorner (Senior at Tesla STEM High School)
Jakob has worked extensively with bridge design and modeling throughout high school and has won many national awards for his bridges. This summer he is bringing everything he has learned over the years into a compressed course to introduce kids to the engineering design process.
